1. Introduction
E-commerce, or Electronic Commerce, is an online business model that utilizes information technology and the support of the Internet to conduct transactions such as buying, selling, exchanging, and online payments. E-commerce is a global trend of the era of globalization and represents a potential field for small and medium-sized enterprises to thrive and grow. It also provides opportunities for those who want to start businesses using new models.
The e-commerce business model is considered one of the solutions to drive the development of the national economy. The top three leading e-commerce companies in the world are Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba. In Vietnam, Lazada, Tiki, and Adayroi are among the top companies. Anthony Tan, co-founder and CEO of Grab, played a significant role in transforming Grab into one of the leading ride-hailing services in Southeast Asia. |
E-commerce sales figures prove that this is a promising and long-term global growth area. According to the Vietnam E-commerce Index (EBI) 2017 report, the total value of e-commerce transactions in the world in 2016 exceeded $1 trillion, and it is expected to grow at a rate of 17% per year. Furthermore, e-commerce on mobile devices is rapidly growing, accounting for over 20% of e-commerce revenue. In the next 10 years, it is predicted that e-commerce platform shopping trends will continue to replace traditional business models.
